Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are taking part in a 10km run on 10th July 2011 to raise money for the FANTASTIC Great Ormond Street Hospital. We have both been able to see the great work that this charity carries out through my son and Lisa's nephew little Joseph. We would like to take this opportunity to give a little something back to them.
After Joseph's birth and at his 6 week check his GP heard a murmour to his chest and referred him to see a GOSH consultant. At the referral I (Emma) was advised that Joseph had some serious heart defects and was rushed to GOSH in London within 3 hours. After many tests we were informed that Joseph had a coarctation (narrowing in the main artery of the body) of the aorta, narrowing to the aorta arch and a sub-aortic ridge by the aortic valve (a small extra muscle where the blood flows through the valve to the heart).
Joseph had heart surgery at 10 weeks old to remove the coarction. Joseph is having open heart surgery to remove the fibrous tissue/ridge on the 7th April 2011 :( He is seen by a GOSH consultant every 6 weeks. Currently Joseph is a very active and lively boy and does not let any of his defects effect him in any way.
Whilst being with Joseph we saw lots more very poorly babies and children and some that will have to remain in hospital for a very very long time. GOSH was not only great to Joseph but also to our family.
