Story
Hi! I'm Elvira. I am a Finance Manager at WSP UK and a Treasurer of Sunflower Scotland, a Scottish Charity helping Ukraine's frontline villages, kids with Down syndrome, orphans, and frontline medics who are saving lives.
Why is Ukraine close to my heart? My family is from Konotop, and my cousins live in Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia. I know first hand that Ukraine is a poor country, with a large number of people living in poverty. The war has made the country's economic situation even worse. Deaths and destructions as a result of this war is just the "tip of the iceberg". The consequences extend far beyond what is visible: poverty and malnutrition among the elderly in forgotten frontline villages, disabilities affecting countless individuals, economic decline, social challenges, and mental health issues that affect even those who were once healthy—but especially disabled children.
❤️🔥 Sunflower goes where people really struggle, near the front: East and South Ukraine.
❤️🔥We don't send food from the UK: we buy it in Ukraine and support the local economy.
❤️🔥We help frontline medics to save lives.
🌻Sunflower Scotland supports two rehabilitation centres for veterans in East Ukraine.
❤️🔥And children with special needs in Kryvyi Rih - with a local Charity "We can" (Ми можемо).
While we cannot solve all problems, we can offer relief—no matter how small—and make a positive impact on lives that desperately need it. Please help us if you can!
Our team is going on a 14 mile Big Stroll from Clydebank to Balloch with Glasgow Kiltwalk on Saturday 26 April 2025.
