Eagle Aid fundraises for a number of projects, helping the sick or handicapped, especially children but also the elderly and/or refugees mainly in Europe, Africa and the Middle East and India.

Story

In July 2010, in aid of ‘The Xavier Project’, we are going to be walking the entirety of the 84 miles of in four days. The expedition will start from a small town near the city of called Walls End, and finish less than a week later in Bowness-on-Soloway in .

The aim of the Xavier Project, founded by Francie’s brother Edmund, is to provide a wider education primarily to Congolese refugee children in and . There are thousands of refugees in , the capital of , who have fled from The Democratic Republic of Congo due to the debilitating conflict going on there. When these families arrive in and they often have no money, and almost worse they are unable to speak the local language so there is very little possibility that they will be able to find employment. Sometimes they have been on the run for many years and as a result their children have been missing out on an education.  The intention of The Xavier Project is not just to give these refugees an education so that they can be secure and prosperous. In the long term we hope to educate men and women for others who can make their own world a better place. The Xavier Project is part of an umbrella charity called Eagle Aid, charity number-1041056.

We are not sure what to expect of this trip; however we know exactly what we want to achieve. Our motivation will come from the determination to raise money by ourselves for this specific charity. For us, it will be a short term task which we’ll no doubt see as difficult due to the tiring days without any comforts - so abnormal for our seemingly easy lives - but for the children in East Africa, it will be something that will benefit their education, and prosperity not just for them but also in the long term for their community.

We are funding this trip entirely ourselves. If you feel happy to support us in this challenge, we would really appreciate it if you were to sponsor us on our JustGiving page.

Thank you,

Eliza Craston & Francie Page
