I am running the London Marathon for Childhood First, an exceptional charity are working to create create 21st-century therapeutic environments for the recovery and rehabilitation of children and young people who have suffered abuse, neglect and other trauma.
They deliver exceptional outcomes in the care, education and treatment of children suffering severe emotional and behavioural disturbance as a result of early life trauma.
These children are among the most vulenerable in our society,the young people coming for help invariably bring with them histories of family dysfunction, resulting in neglect, abuse and other trauma, that need a deeper psychotherapeutic approach if they are to be healed.
Every child has a story to tell
- 89% disclose serious abuse or neglect
- 39% victims of sexual abuse
- 78% victims of domestic violence
- 57% parents or carers involved in drug or alcohol misuse
- 50% parents or carers with psychiatric disorder or mental illness

Following an average length of placement of 24.3 months the following results can be seen
Educational attainment at 16+
- 96% achieved 1 or more GCSE pass
- 65% achieved 4 or more GCSE passes
- 35% achieved 6-9 GCSE passes
- 0% children excluded from school
Employment, training, FE at 18+
- 87% went on to full-time employment, training or further education
Independent living at 18+
- 58% went on to independent living accommodation
- 32% entered semi-independent or supported living
- 0% became homeless
- 0% went on to bed and breakfast accommodation
Money raised is used in the following ways:
£100 pays for books, games and toys for our youngest children, aged 5 and upwards, as they take their first steps with us towards the healing of their trauma.
£250 pays for preparatory period of independent living in our special on-site flat, for one of our long-term resident young people, so that they can develop the skills they will need when they leave us.
£500 pays for 24 hours of specialist therapeutic care, assessment and treatment for a child who is in mental crisis and could otherwise need psychiatric hospitalization.
£1000 pays for the refurbishment and refurnishing of one of the main therapeutic rooms in one of our specialised children's homes
Please note that although your donation goes to Ladbrokes Charitable Trust every penny raised through this page will be paid to Childhood First after the marathon.
