Story
And now I am at £500 if I make it to £1,000 I'll do it as Smurfette (at the urging of the lab!)
So it turns out that £200 was raised quickly, I'll update with a photo of my blue hair ASAP but for now the target is £500 and if I make that I'll run the race dressed a a smurf...
On the 10th July I am running a 10k event in London for Centre 33. I'm assuming most of you will know I haven't done anything like this before but to give you some idea of what this all might look like I put up a photo of me at my most competitive and sportiest. Sadly this is just me being massively over enthusiastic at a Summer School sports day but you get the idea (incidentally molecular biology won the 3-legged race that day).
If I make £200 I'll dye my hair blue before this all happens... at that point I will think of something else ridiculous to do at some new milestone...
More importantly though is what Centre 33 is doing. Last year the Centre ran various services and has contact with almost 10% of young people aged 11-25 in East Cambrdgeshire and South Cambridgeshire and City. The centre does a huge amount of things so I wanted to give you an idea starting with the Young carers:
- The Young Carers Project works with about 200 young carers who are aged 8-18. The project provides youth groups giving respite from caring responsibilities, 1-to-1 support, trips and aims to give young carers a voice.
- Offering free counselling which is available rapidly upon request and also works out in rural areas. Last year 387 young people accessed this service
- Housing and living skills provide support and advice to young people who have become homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless and last year they worked with 160 young people.
And all this is done out of a tiny house on Clarendon street, with hardly any staff and a small budget. I have no idea how they manage to keep it all working and how they manage to get so much done on so little money so I don't think you could find a charity where any money you gave would mean more. So please do sponsor me for this event!
