Story
We successfully completed our challenge almost a week ago, and some donations are still coming in. Many thanks to all who have supported us in our endeavours!
With just 10 days to go we have passed our target, and some more donations have come in. There is still time to send a couple of pounds, and you can follow our progress through Facebook.
Some of the bodywork upgrades are close to completion, we hope to get the car back in a few days to begin the final transformation.
After doing the 2014 Help for Heroes run last year as ''The Lost Boys'' we wanted to sign up for another challenge. The H4H run is skipping a year, so there is a smaller group doing a run in aid of the RAF Association - another worthy cause.
Similar rules apply, we have GBP300 to spend on buying a car, then we have to tart it up for the run and raise our minimum of GBP250 in donations. We hope to do much better than that..
Robin and I have already got our donor car, and designs are well advanced for her transformation. We have adopted a new team name ''Team Double Zero'' which might hint to our inspiration for the car's transformation. We have already completed the mechanical work to get her an MOT certificate, and now we are working on physical and electronic modifications to fit our chosen theme. The hope is that she'll be very eyecatching!
This year's route will loosely follow the D-Day Band of Brothers (US 101st Airbourne) route from Normandy, through Europe to the Eagles Nest in Berchtesgarten, and then on over an obligatory alpine pass to Venice. We have 4 days to get there as usual.
The cars are to be decorated, but the theme is quite open. As it's the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, something plane related would be appropriate. As we are travelling through Germany nothing offensive or provacative is advisable.
The trip should be fun and informative as we visit old war monuments on the way.We will be travelling with some of the crews from last year's H4H run (now firm friends) and hopefully some new blood as well.If last year's experience is anything to go by, it should be memorable.
Our only worry is if we have prepared the car well enough to last! Follow us on facebook to keep tabs on our progress.
