Story
Recent reports suggest that over 45,000 people have lost their lives following the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, with thousands more injured, missing or left with nothing.
As the devastation grows, the world's governments have responded with aid and emergency support, however, the people of Turkey and Syria need more help.
Donate A Doner is a fundraising campaign organised by the Centre for Turkey Studies and the British Kebab Awards to encourage the doner kebab-buying British public to give that extra support. An icon of Turkish cuisine, the doner kebab is a mainstay of the British food
scene, available on every high street. With over 20,000 kebab shops in the UK and one in ten Brits eating a kebab everyday, this February onwards we’re calling on UK citizens to Donate a Doner to raise much needed funds.
We eat a staggering 1.3m DONERS A DAY in the UK, and the average price of a doner starts at £5. If we all bought an extra doner, we would raise over £45 MILLION IN A WEEK.
Please donate the cost of a doner, or more if you can spare it, and help raise much needed funds for the British Red Cross Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal.

On Monday 6 February at 4:17am local time, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey (officially known as Türkiye) near the city of Gaziantep, devastating parts of Türkiye (Turkey) and Syria. It was followed by a series of powerful aftershocks.
Then at 13:24 local time, a second earthquake (M7.5) hit the Elbistan district around 80 miles north of Gaziantep.
Rescuers raced to save people trapped beneath the rubble, and get shelter and support to those in Türkiye (Turkey) and Syria who had lost their homes or were afraid to return inside.
The Turkish Red Crescent (Kizilay) has launched a crisis response operation and mobilised teams in more than 10 regions across the country, while the Syrian Arab Red Crescent is delivering assistance and support to those in need in the regions of Hama, Aleppo and Lattakia.
With homes destroyed, power down, and hospitals, bridges and roads damaged, thousands of people are in urgent need of help.
How will my donation help people in Türkiye (Turkey) and Syria?
You can help those affected by the earthquakes by donating to the British Red Cross Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal.Your donation will be used to reach people in urgent need in the aftermath of the earthquakes.
Turkish Red Crescent (Kizilay) and Syrian Arab Red Crescent emergency responders have been working tirelessly since day one to help people affected by the earthquakes, providing first aid and essentials like food, water, blankets and shelter. Their teams were already rooted in the local communities, and are providing unique access to the hardest hit areas.
Rescue operations continue but, as time goes on, the focus is now shifting to providing essential support for survivors who have lost their homes, belongings, livelihoods and loved ones.
With thousands of buildings collapsed, and hospitals, roads and infrastructure destroyed, millions of people are in urgent need of help.
Your donation will be used to reach people in urgent need in the aftermath of the earthquakes. It will provide support and aid that includes:
- Distributing essentials like food water and blankets
- Setting up temporary shelters to support thousands of survivors who are facing freezing conditions
- Providing first aid and crisis support
- Assisting with the rescue efforts and getting people vital medical aid
- Providing psychosocial support to those who have been traumatised
Their teams will continue working to ensure that as many survivors as possible have access to the help that they need. Snow and bad weather mean that people who have lost their homes are facing freezing temperatures, so warmth, shelter and sustenance are some of their highest priorities.
Please donate today and help Red Cross and Red Crescent teams reach families and communities who have lost everything.
