In loving memory of their Granny Mary, Niamh, Ella and Orla are going to complete a fundraising swim on Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day on Sunday 13th November 2016. My mum adored spending time with her granddaughters and she was a huge part of their lives, so they are really keen to do something in memory of their lovely gran.
Niamh & Orla aim to swim 1/2 mile in the swimming pool and although not as strong a swimmer Ella is hoping to do the same, with some stops and starts along the way. In addition to the girls completing the swim myself and Craig will also be taking part.
My mum was born in 1932 and at the young age of 14years was diagnosed with Tuberculosis, she spent many of the following years hospitalized and housebound. Although she defied the odds and lived on for another 70 years, unfortunately the TB left long term health issues however this never stopped my mum living life to the full. She was a very chatty lady and loved meeting new people, even when admitted to hospital which was a regular thing she was always attempting to remove the oxygen mask to chat, against doctors orders.
On 13th June this year (2016) days after her 84th birthday my mum was admitted to hospital, which we all initially though was a chest infection which was normally the case. However on the 22nd June we received the devastating news that my mum had pancreatic cancer in the advanced stages.
My mum was blessed and privileged to be in the care of the Ardgowan Hospice in Greenock. The care and attention the nursing staff and doctors provide at this hospice is beyond words. My mum passed away peacefully on Sunday 3rd July in the best of care surrounded by the most compassionate people we have ever met.
Great news my employer Hewlett Packard Enterprise has agreed to Money Match up to a maximum of £175 :-)
Thank you Debbie x
