Story

In 2012 after completing the Sydney marathon (my 4th marathon on 4th different continent), I set myself a challenge to try and become a member of the 7 Continents Marathon Club, a group consisting of less than a hundred people worldwide who have completed a marathon on all 7 continents. Since then, I have gone on to complete marathons in Asia and Africa and in November 2014 I will be travelling to Antarctica to complete the challenge (hopefully) and achieve a dream.
The Antarctic Ice Marathon is rated as one of the most physically challenging running events on earth. Underfoot conditions comprise of snow and ice throughout and the average wind chill temperature is a 'frosty' minus 20°C BBRRRRRRR!, plus there is the likelihood of incredibly strong Katabatic winds to contend with.
I have no doubt that this is going to be the toughest physical and mental challenge of my life. Given the extreme conditions and based upon information provided to me by the race director, I hope to complete this marathon in somewhere between 6-8 hours.
I'm running to raise money for The National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) because they are dedicated to creating a world without barriers for the estimated 45,000+ deaf children and young people in the UK. If you would like to know more about the NDCS and the invaluable work that they do, please visit their website at http://www.ndcs.org.uk/.
As always, I'm funding all race costs myself (flights, race package, accommodation) so that all donations from you lovely folks will go directly to the NDCS.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all again for your truly amazing support to date & ask you to please dig deep one last time for this final effort. Your generosity is helping to change the lives of deaf children and young people in the UK and their families.
THANK YOU!
Dave
