Story
Youlgrave Church has for centuries - and since around 1150-70AD - been a spiritual home to generations of villagers and a daily welcoming place for many visitors. Simon Jenkins lists it in his definitive guide of the 1000 best churches in England.
The church stands tall within the surrounding Derbyshire countryside. It acts as a beacon for its residents and for the many holiday makers who return to enjoy Youlgrave each year; you know you are home when you see that beautiful bell tower rising above the village and the green hills.
It is noted as one of four key churches that stand out in the Peak District. It has many distinct artifacts and interesting historical references throughout the building including a 12th century medieval pilgrim figure and a Norman font. If you look up to the roof you see some beautiful roof bosses including coats of arms and fantastic creatures!
The church is a sanctuary as well as a place of celebration, remembrance, joy, laughter and a village of cakes! Lynn Nolan's superbly designed cake village raised £4000 for the Church Roof Fund as people clamoured to see Youlgrave's key buildings made entirely of edible goodies!
The church is also very close to our village hearts: good friends - good people - are laid to rest within its boundaries. We remember each year the many men who lost their lives in wars past and present as well as enjoying the annual nativity - the highlight of the church's calendar - where everyone comes together to celebrate Christmas; as well as our famous well dressing celebrations. It is more than just a church - it binds our wonderful community together.
Youlgrave's Church Roof is now in very great need of some work to restore it. Community members have worked hard to raise over £104,000 already for the roof appeal, but a further £96,000 is needed.
We need your help to give this wonderful building some TLC so that it can continue to act as a beacon for all and a stalwart of our community.

It's been a special place for us since we arrived in the village three years ago - a place of celebration in good times and deep support in the toughest times. Very happy to support and share!
