This is the story of two ordinary Yorkshire guys, Nev Styles and Tony Day who have a dream and want to turn it into a challenge by competing in The Real Way to Dakar 2023, an adventure rally following the original Paris Dakar route.

The event will cover some 6000 Kilometres across Europe and Western Africa to the finish line, close to the equator in the City of Dakar.

We aim to raise sponsorship to complete the challenge throughout this year on the leadup to the event. There are huge expenses involved in competing in an event like this, the entry fees for the the team and service vehicle are close to £4000. Together with purchasing the vehicle (which we have committed to already) We also have to invest in a comprehensive spare parts and tyre inventory, which we have budgeted to be approximately £5000. Fuel, ferries and navigational equipment all need to be factored in. Overall we expect the budget to be £50,000, mostly funded by ourselves, On top of this we want to raise money for the fantastic charity ‘Help for Heroes’. To do this, we have decided that for every donation received through crowdfunding, we will pledge 100% to the charity.

The challenge is going to be extremely difficult but with the help of a service mechanic and driver, who will follow the event and be ready each evening to carry out essential maintenance work on the vehicle while Nev & Tony concentrate on plotting the following days route.

We expect to have to contend with snow and sub-zero temperatures in the Atlas Mountains through to 40 plus degree temperatures in the sands of the Sahara Desert.
