Iʼve raised £1,000 to Support XR Youth

Funded on Monday, 1st February 2021

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

    The youth need your support.

Climate collapse, capitalism, and colonialism have set the scene for a bleak future for our generation. We cannot trust our government to act against the oppressions it intentionally upholds, so we must take matters into our own hands, and we need your help.

With our members all born after 1990, no one in XR Youth has seen a world without climate and ecological collapse. This gives us a powerful urgency in our activism; the climate emergency is our reality - either we act now for a chance at life, or we don't live to see our grandchildren.

    So what do we do?

XR Youth is not just a "kids club" for XR. We have our own ecosystem, with over 50 local groups, a national support team, many university groups and an XR Youth Solidarity group. This means that we have our own links with frontline activists, local level organisers and many school and uni students. We work independently from Extinction Rebellion, freely collaborating where we feel helps further our aims. We’re soon hoping to escalate our efforts through a newly implemented four pillars system, in which we will be actively aligning all of our work with the four pillars of education, regenerative cultures, solidarity and local group empowerment.

    How can you help?

Unfortunately, in order for us to continue our fight, we need financial support. Many of our youth members are taking money out of their own pockets to pay for transport, banners, and direct action materials. This is difficult for us, as balancing part-time jobs on top of education and organising is a challenge that we should not need to deal with. In an ideal world, we should not have to be risking criminal records or school expulsions in order to have a chance at a decent future, but this is the situation we are faced with.

If you’re able to donate £10, you could be helping a young person get a train to the rebellion. If you’re able to donate £100, you could be helping one of our full time activists with their living costs so that they’re able to continue their work. You could help grow our local groups, support our actions and help us to fight for our future.

Anything you can give, is very much appreciated.

We are all in this crisis together. Thank you so much for your help.
