    Story

West Kingsdown Boxing Club first opened its doors in March 2017 and is a community-centred not for profit amateur boxing club which provides a safe place for people to go to keep fit, learn self-defence, discipline and respect for the local community, with the possibility of competing. It is proven that boxing clubs offer a positive diversion from crime and antisocial behaviour and promotes social cohesion.

WKD BC aims to encourage individuals to join the club, stay active, and otherwise engage with a worthwhile activity and socialise whilst building respect for the community as a whole.

During these difficult times, we are all experiencing challenges that will affect many people’s health, social lives and livelihoods for a long time to come.

As one of the 950+ amateur boxing clubs in England who are run entirely by voluntary coaches, we give up an average of 4.5 nights every single week to run West Kingsdown Boxing Club. We do this for the benefit of our local communities, and our gyms are a sanctuary for many people in England.

Our volunteers at West Kingsdown Boxing Club manage to train our members by covering essential overheads primarily through a combination of subs and fundraising by hosting boxing shows for the public.

At this stage, there is a great level of uncertainty around the impact that coronavirus will have on West Kingsdown Boxing Club, as we will more than likely still need to cover our overheads throughout the coming weeks and months, but with no income to do so.

That is why we are backing the “KO COVID-19” campaign, appealing to members of our local community to donate whatever they can to their local boxing club, to help ensure that when we as a nation have KO’d Covid-19, members can return to their local boxing club.

Whatever you do, however big or small, please help your local club to #KOCOVID19, and thank you from all of us at West Kingsdown Boxing Club
