Story
My wife (Gemma) and I (Tom) are both qualified physiotherapists, we met while training as physiotherapists in Newcastle in 2015. One of things we first spoke about was our love for Africa and the people who live there, as Gemma and I had both visited Africa the summer prior to coming to Newcastle. We both have always shared a dream to return and work as Physiotherapists as we had noticed that Physiotherapy was such an under-represented area of healthcare. Fast forward to 2021, working for the NHS, Sheffield. We have just been accepted by the charity CMS Ireland to return to Africa and spend 9 months working in Kiwoko Hospital in Uganda as Physiotherapists. CMS Ireland is a Christian mission organisation that exists to help God’s people engage in God’s mission across the global family. This placement will be between January 2022 - September 2022, we will be supporting the hospital both through volunteering as Physiotherapists to help the care of their patients but also to help educate the staff who are already present on how to assess and treat conditions that physiotherapy can have a massive part to play in treating.
Gemma and I are both Christians and will be spending time in Uganda meeting other Christians who live there worshipping with them both at churches and at work, Kiwoko Hospital's mission statement is “We treat... Jesus Heals“. We love how Jesus is at the front of how they care for people. We feel that it mirrors our own passion, for treating people lovingly and compassionately no matter who they are. Striving for humility and generosity in all things we do.
We would love you to partner with us! For us to support the hospital it will cost a total of £14,000, we have already raised £7000 (which is amazing!) but we aren't there yet. Your money will go towards our living costs while we are in Uganda and will help us donate some of the money to bless those people who we will live and work with. The work that Kiwoko Hospital do for the people of Uganda is inspiring, please consider partnering with us to achieve our goal. This year has been very difficult for everyone and any donation no matter how small will be so so so appreciated!!
Disclaimer: If for any reason, COVID-19 or other, we are unable to take this mission placement to Uganda all the money raised will be donated directly to Kiwoko Hospital.
