Story
Theo Samuel Dawes was born premature and 10 weeks early in October 2016, due to complications and weighed just 2lb. Issues were found with the placenta and umbilical cord proving dangerous to both mother and baby and forced doctors at the Sunderland Maternity Ward to make the decision to deliver him early. He spent the first 7 weeks of his life in Neonatal Intensive Care unit in an incubator and required the assistance of respiratory care which, included CPAP, Humicare & Oxygen. Theo was very poorly when first born and had his fair share of ups and downs over the 7 weeks with his health, due to his lungs being premature and weak, picking up infections and required the help of antibiotics etc. He also required a blood transfusion due to having a very low level of red blood cells which, his body could not reproduce like the rest of us. This helped him significantly on his road to recovery and making him strong enough to eventually be allowed home at 7 weeks old & weighing just over 4lb. However, he still requires the help of oxygen 24 hours per day for the forseeable future as he has been diagnosed with Chronic Lung Disease.
Without the amazing care from staff including the doctors and nurses and the equipment they use he would not be here today, not to mention the many other babies who were and continue to be born in this way. Our aim is to show just how appreciative we are to the the Neonatal Unit for the work they do and continue to do for all babies. We are looking to raise as much money as possible via charity events with performances from musicians & comedians etc & via donations received with the aim to purchase a new incubator and equipment such as heart rate & respiratory monitor and a infusion machine which administers milk feed and antibiotics to sick babies. One of these units can cost up to £17,000 alone and including other equipment around £20,000 plus.
Please help us raise funds. Any donation amount is most welcome no matter how big or small.
