Story
On the 4th May, Mark was sadly diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. He has bravely undergone two phases of chemotherapy at ARI, but to further his chances of cure, he needs a full bone marrow transplant. Luckily, a suitable donor has been found using the Anthony Nolan register.
As this procedure is not undertaken in Aberdeen, he will be admitted to the Beatson Cancer Centre in Glasgow. Mark will undergo treatment for a week to prepare his body, followed by the transplant and approx 6-8 weeks of a gruelling recovery period within the hospital there. Once discharged, he will need weekly visits to both the Beatson Centre and ARI for approx 3 months. His total full recovery period following the transplant is estimated at 6-9 months.
Donna and Mark want their three children Logan (6), Kaiden (3)and Teigan (2) to be with them in Glasgow as much as possible. However, this is going to be extremely costly for accommodation and the travelling to and from Glasgow.
We would like to raise some funds to go towards a much loved family who have always donated generously to their local community and many charities over the years. We want to do our bit for them now to relieve the financial strain to make life a little bit easier and, if possible, slightly less stressful over the next few months.
We have organised a coffee morning at Cuminestown Church Hall near Turriff on Saturday 13th August at 10am. All welcome!
Clare, Sonia & Jacqui are taking part in the epic 10km Beast obstacle race on the 24th September at Banchory! It's no ordinary 10k run, as the girls will be faced with lots of obstacles where they will find themselves in freezing loch water, thick mud, steep and rocky terrain... We are also taking sponsor money for this event on this page.
Proceeds will go towards Donna, Mark and the kids. Any funds unrequired will be donated to Bloodwise.
Thank you so much in advance. We are overwhelmed by the support of our friends and local community.
