    SUPPORT FOR THE GAMBIA

Hi everyone! On 6th July, along with 16 fellow-fundraising-friends, We will attempt a gruelling 26.2 mile trekathon, from the heart of Glencoe to the foot of Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands. We have 12 hours to complete the challenge. We are supporting our two friends Johnny Brophy and Gerard Hastings. They are a non-profit, micro charity working in The Gambia, supporting children in education and local communities by building schools and providing access to fresh water and sanitation facilities.

In March last year they completed the construction of a three-room nursery school in Busumbala village which is now successfully up and running. The new, fit-for-purpose building replaced the breeze-block cattle shed that almost two hundred children were using. Since there is no government provision for education under the age of seven in The Gambia, their project is a significant asset to the local community. The school was also a welcome addition to the water well and the toilet facilities that they previously built.

In addition to improving the children's welfare, the local community also benefitted. The project created employment for a whole range of local industries: skilled/un-skilled workers, teachers, traders, local merchants, builders, labourers, brick-makers, welders, metal workers, painters, roofers, sign-writers, truck drivers, well-diggers and plumbers, not to mention the local women who prepared food and ensured essential water provision.

We're raising funds to support their next mission – to build a second nursery school in TheGambia. To make this happen we need YOUR HELP to meet the target of £20,000. We all share the belief that every child has the right to access fresh water, decent sanitation facilities and a sound education. By trekking together, with your support, we can make this a reality for another community in The Gambia.

PLEASE donate and share our mission with your families, friends and colleagues.
