Having visited the dispensary run by the LITTLE SERVANTS OF THE SACRED HEART and seeing first-hand the medical assistance provided to the local people of Ithanga, I felt compelled to help the Sisters in collecting funds to enable the expansion and development of their current dispensary. The Sisters are unbelievably committed and dedicated to offering medical care to those in need, and even without the adequate equipment or facilities, they do an incredible job.

This project is aimed at creating a safe environment for HIV-infected women, as well as any man, woman or child in need of medical assistance. The dispensary prepares and educates pregnant women so that they may deliver their babies safely and also complete the care of the newly born child, inclusive of nutrition, hygiene and vaccinations.

According to their statistics, an average of 20,000 people per year would benefit from the new facilities. Namely, whoever is in need of medical attention or of a referral to a higher level medical facility, having already acquired an ambulance to facilitate emergency transport where needed.

All these activities are already carried out at the current dispensary. The available space, however, is no longer adequately equipped to deal with the ever-increasing number of patients in both post-natal and admissions. The plan is therefore to expand this dispensary and thereby enable a higher level of medical assistance, still allowing the patients to stay within close access of their homes, yet providing assistance and observation for a few days, rather than travelling 60km to the nearest hospital and medical provision.

The targeted amount of funds (US$155,790) would go towards the construction of a new building alongside the existing one, incorporating:
