Story
The United Artists of Sierra Leone is a charity group based in England. Through the promotion of arts and cultural events, it is dedicated to raising funds to help with providing necessary equipment’s for the Kissy Psychiatric Home in Freetown, Sierra Leone. It has its origins from the 1980s Sierra Leonean organisation of the same name, principally created to represent and defend the interests of performing artists.
The UK version continued the same role on its inception in 1997. It gained favourable respect in the community for organising and producing the annual Community Excellence Awards show. The premise of the event was to showcase cultural arts, alongside the recognition of outstanding individuals, groups and businesses within the Sierra Leonean diaspora, mainly in the United Kingdom. ,
The United Artists of Sierra Leone is not an affiliate of any political movement.
Whilst membership is still largely constituted by former dancers and musicians, there are some members within its core, with no prior links to any artistic experiences.
All year round, the United Artists of Sierra Leone is looking for, and working on ideas to improve its fund raising efforts. Proceeds from its flagship event, the annual Community Excellence Awards Show are directed towards supporting the Kissy Psychiatric Home.
This year 2017 the Organisation want to raise £5000 to help with medial supply - We are organizing our forth coming Community Excellence Awards show to help raise more funds for this project - so your help will be much appreciated.
