Iʼve raised £7,953 to help school support staff in Derby continue their fight against imposed changes which have seen some take a 25% pay cut overnight.

Story
UNISON members in schools within Derby are taking industrial action against changes to their terms and conditions imposed on 1 June in year. These UNISON members are low paid, predominately female workers who carry out fundamental roles in our community, supporting and providing the education provision of local children. They are taking action due to a pay cut of up to 25%, which equates to as much as £400 a month for some of these members.
Proudly these workers are joining together and taking action, with the full support of their trade union, UNISON. We have been overwhelmed with the dedication and participation during the industrial action taken to date and members have shown a real sense of solidarity and commitment to forcing their employer to rethink their decision.
Derby City Council’s response has been to describe themselves as Margaret Thatcher and liken the school support staff to striking miners and assert that they will ‘starve them back to work’. This has strengthened our determination that our members will not be starved back to work. They are not miners, this is not the 80s!
We need support to turn this fight into a victory! Any and all donations will be greatly received.

8 years agoNegotiations took place last week (week commencing 24 October 2016) between UNISON and Derby City Council. These negotiations have been constructive and helpful. As a result both sides have agreed to extend the negotiations for a further week.

As a lifelong Rams fan and ex PCS activist, I could not resist making a small donation to Unison's cause locally. Good luck to all in your fight for justice in the Derby area!
