I'm raising £7500 to fund school fees for Sam and Kenneth in Uganda

Story

Lucy is the mother to three boys, Dan, Kennard and Sam. They live in Kampala, Uganda, where Lucy works as a housekeeper. The boys would not normally be able to attend a good school, as Lucy cannot afford the fees on her wages, but courtesy of private sponsorship by an independent funder they have been lucky enough to attend good schools for many years, which will make a big difference to their future (and Lucy's) if and when they graduate.

The only trouble is, the funder has stopped sponsoring their fees, midway through their education, as he has decided to support projects in Ukraine instead. There are many needy causes in today's world, and the boys and Lucy continue to be grateful for his support to date, but it leaves them in a bit of a pickle.

Lucy herself never attended more than a few years of primary school, due to a disrupted childhood in Northern Uganda during the Lords Resistance Army insurgency. As a housekeeper, she only makes about $100 per month. So I cannot emphasise enough that this opportunity is transformational for them as a family, as they would not normally be able to access such good education.

As it is midway through their schooling we are keen to raise funds to help the boys finish their education and not have all the previous investment go to waste. So a small group of us who know Lucy from our time living in Kampala are collaborating to fundraise to make sure Dan, Kennard and Sam finish their schooling.

Our initial target of £3,000 was SMASHED by your generous donations. This covered the cost of all three boys for the September 2023 term, including sending the two older boys on a special recess term over the summer holidays because they were sitting their equivalent of GCSEs and A Levels. They have now done their exams and are eagerly awaiting their results!

We have now extended the target to allow for the next three terms of Sam and Kenneth, the two younger boys. Sam is in his final year of primary school - which feature an important graduation exam at the end of the year, without which he would not get into secondary. Assuming he gets the results he needs in the upcoming exam results, Kenneth is starting Senior 5, the year before A level year.

From now on, the cost of sponsoring Sam and Kenneth is about £1500 a term, or £4,500 a year. This will go up slightly as Sam enters secondary education, but then reduce considerably as Kenneth graduates. Nevertheless, it is no small undertaking, and if you are so inclined, please do sign up to make a monthly donation - it will make a huge difference over time. But really we are grateful for whatever you can spare - however large or small.

We will post updates every term. Lucy is ever so grateful, as are we and the boys.
