    Story

Tyler is 18 years of age and works as a seasonal bike mechanic for Inverness bike hire company, Ticket to Ride. He is an active bike racer and represents Inverness Cycle Club (ICC) in road racing, time trialing and cyclocross at both junior and senior level. (Note - each event discipline needs a different type of bike)

Tyler has achieved some notable results so far this year:-

Etape Loch Ness Sportive - 12th overall / Bealach Beag Sportive - 12th overall (2nd on the Bealach na ba - King of the Mountains competition) / ICC Club Confined Time Trials - new junior and senior club record holder. He also completed the Strathpuffer 24-hour marathon at his first attempt.

There is no doubt that Tyler is an exceptionally talented young cyclist, but his racing costs are mounting and to continue his development, he will need additional financial support. A large part of Tyler's income now goes towards his bike racing.

Unfortunately, a crash on his road bike at a recent event has left Tyler in the position of having to purchase a new bike frame from the money set aside for his racing, leaving him with a funding shortfall.

His race schedule for 2023 includes the Scotland North TT Series (15 events), Scottish 10TT and 50TT Championships, Scottish Junior Road Race and a multi-day stage race.

Most of these events are away from the Inverness area, with some in the Central Belt, so in addition to his bike running costs and race entry fees, he has travel expenses and each of the national championships will likely also incur overnight accommodation.

Tyler is a hard working and likeable young man who gives 100% to everything he does. He has high standards and strives to succeed in all aspects of his life.

Please help us reach our fundraising target and give Tyler the best possible chance to fulfil his undoubted potential.

    Thank you

    Derek Paterson (Inverness Cycle Club)

Massive congratulations to Tyler who, on the 24th September, won the Category 3/4 JGCC Road Race on the renowned Moscow circuit just south of Glasgow. His first senior win - even although still a junior. The manner of his victory was even more impressive given he won by over a minute with a 10km solo breakaway. The win secured enough ranking points to guarantee Tyler a Category 3 race licence for next season.

Mur de Fowlis Road Race in Alford, Aberdeenshire last night. Tyler came within a few hundred meters of securing a breakaway second place against a field of top North East riders. Unfortunately, he was caught by the pack of 6 chasing riders, who were working together, and they all managed to out sprint him over the finish line. A case of what might have been but nevertheless, a fine 8th place finish and some well deserved British Cycling ranking points.

Mackie Trophy TT Aviemore (18th July 2023), part of the Scotland North TT Series. Tyler secured overall 6th place (1st junior), from an entry list of 45 riders. Notwithstanding wet slippery conditions and heavy rain, he skilfully navigated the 14.2 mile technical course in 33:06 minutes (average speed 25.1mph). A fantastic result and one he was very happy with.
