Story
David Trendell was a much-loved, respected, and admired Director of Music at St Bartholomew the Great from 1996 until 2009. He was the first Director of a then new professional choir that has sung at the church ever since he first called it together. The performances they gave under his direction were as remarkable for the performers as they were for the congregations that heard them. He added enormously to the experience and quality of the sacred liturgies of the church.
David's sudden death at the end of October 2014 was an enormous shock for all his many friends and everyone who appreciated his work. The Parish of Great St Bartholomew is commissioning a plaque to be placed on the wall of the church Cloister, between plaques that commemorate two other great Directors of Music at the Church, Paul Steinitz, who was there from 1949 to 1961, and Brian Brockless, who was Director twice, from 1961 to 1969, and from 1979 to 1995.
David's music was a service to the church and to the community, and we want to give an opportunity for everyone who would like to do so to contribute to this permanent memorial to him. As with the other two plaques, David's will be made from slate into which gilded letters are cut.
Thank you for any donation you feel able to give to enable David to be commemorated in this way.

8 years agoThis is to let you know that, having reached our target of £1,400, the memorial tablet was produced and recently installed in the Cloister. We haven't made a major announcement about this yet, because we intend to arrange a further memorial service later in 2017, perhaps on Sunday, 29th October, the day after the anniversary of David's death. The plaque will then be formally unveiled and blessed. In the meantime, we want once again to thank the contributors most warmly. If you are able to do so, please do come to see it in the meantime.

8 years agoThis is a brief message to thank everyone who has donated so far to David Trendell's memorial in the Cloister of St Bartholomew the Great. Between your support on Justgiving and funds that have been sent directly to the church, we are getting close to the target. We are thrilled by the generosity that people have shown here - although not entirely surprised, since David was such an important person for us all. Thank you very much indeed, and we will be posting on our webiste details of when it will be unveiled in due course. Warm best wishes!
