Story

Many of you will be aware of the current institutionalisation of my son, Kyle, due to his mental health, and my hopes that an appeal will successfully allow him to return home to receive adequate support.

However, in order to appeal I would need to finance £3,000 of fees. I simply cannot afford to independently fund this, and therefore Kyle is currently being held in Carstairs, due to his diagnosis of ADHD.

Kyle should be allowed to return home and receive the person-centred, appropriate care he has so far been denied. I would appreciate any support which would allow me to make a successful appeal for my son. I would like to celebrate Christmas as a family next year, with some restoration of normality to our lives, something we have both been deprived of for the 13 years Kyle has been subject to institutions. My son has ADHD, being held among the criminally insane is in no way supportive of his condition. His treatment thus far has been unjust and the lack of support has significantly impacted on his wellbeing.

I recently learned, after my local MSP Alexander Burnett wrote to the minister for mental health, that Kyle is one of 41% of the young people detained for mental health, who experience ADHD. The minster has agreed to review this outdated, unnecessary and damaging response to ADHD, which only seeks to stigmatise, outlaw and criminalise those who need additional support. I hope this appeal will stress further the need for review of mental health service provision, and more than anything, I hope I can have Kyle back home.

The donations will go directly to the appeal, I would be grateful of any support.
