Story

We’re the Oxford Belles, an all-female-identifying a cappella group made up of University of Oxford students. For our International Women’s Day project this year, we’re releasing a music video to our mash-up of ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears and Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’. We want to raise awareness of emotional abuse, especially as it impacts women between 16 and 24, and raise funds for survivors.

‘Toxic in the Deep’ is in support of Women’s Aid and Refuge, two phenomenal charities working to eradicate domestic violence. Any money raised will be split equally between the two. Every penny of your donation will go towards providing legal and emotional support for women escaping abuse. The fundraiser forms part of our #seeyoucrystalclear campaign. Use the hashtag, inspired by some of Adele’s most soul-baring lyrics, to share your story, share our page, and encourage other survivors to speak out.

A bit more about us as a group - the Belles were established in 1995 to combat the male-dominated music scene at the University. We’re known for our big voices, big personalities, and even bigger girl power anthems. This year alone, we’ve spread our message of female empowerment all over the UK - like at the UN COP26 Climate Change Conference in Glasgow - and right here in Oxford.

Our group could not exist without women raising their voices, listening to each other, and amplifying each other’s concerns. We’re so passionate about this project, and we can’t wait to finally share it with you.
