Story

Weʼre raising £50,000 to support Tom Smith and his selected charities in his fight against Colon Cancer and help raise awareness of the condition.

Tom Smith Testimonial Fund

On 26 September former Scotland and British and Irish Lion Tom was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer. The cancer started in his colon has spread to his liver and brain. So far he has undergone three intensive rounds of chemotherapy, aimed at halting the tumor’s growth. He has also completed radiotherapy treatments to target the lesions on his brain. The prognosis is challenging but Tom is giving everything in his battle. Tom is currently receiving treatment in France where he is being supported by his wife Zoe and children Angus 18, Amelie 17 and Teddy 9. Following the news, a group of friends and former players have banded together to help Tom in his fight. So far we have been blown away by the offers of help that we have received from the rugby community both near and far.

On his condition Tom said, “I feel immensely grateful for all the treatment and support I am receiving and really want to raise awareness and help people in my situation who are perhaps not so fortunate.”

The website www.tomsmithrugby.co.uk has information on Tom’s condition but also about a fund raising dinner. The dinner will take place at London’s Hurlingham Club on Wednesday 4th of March. The dinner will be a celebration of everything front row and is already gearing up to be a cracking night. We would like you to join us on the night.
