Valencia has been devastated by catastrophic floods, leaving thousands of families without homes, essential supplies, and access to basic services. This crisis has also deeply impacted animal shelters, with countless animals in need of food, shelter, and care.

Though I may no longer live in Spain, I’ve called it home since I was six years old, and seeing this tragedy unfold feels deeply personal. Organising this fundraiser is new for me, and I’m a bit nervous about asking for support. But the need is urgent, and even from afar, I feel compelled to do my part for the community that gave me so much. With your help, we can bring hope and relief to people and animals who are struggling to rebuild.

Your donation will go directly towards two organisations on the ground, working tirelessly to help those impacted by the floods, with the funds split equally between them:

The first organisation, Fundación Madrina (https://madrina.org/madrina-llama-a-la-solidaridad/), is committed to providing humanitarian aid to families affected by this natural disaster, especially focusing on children and mothers who have lost their homes and loved ones. They have launched an emergency campaign to deliver essential supplies, including infant food products (such as formula, baby jars, and cereals), hygiene items (like diapers, wipes, and bottles), non-perishable food, and blankets. Your support will help them purchase these critical items to ensure that vulnerable families receive the care they need.

The second organisation, El Refugio de María (https://www.facebook.com/REFUGIODMARIA/) , is an animal shelter based in Sueca, Valencia. They’ve suffered tremendous losses—not only losing all their food, beds, towels, and essential supplies for the animals in their care, mainly dogs, but also experiencing significant damage to the shelter itself. Donations will help them restock these necessities, provide shelter, comfort, and nourishment to the animals, and begin the work of repairing and rebuilding the shelter so it can continue to be a safe haven for animals in need.
