Story

Like many families, we have endured the heartbreak of losing a loved one through cancer - my grandfather. Throughout his treatment, he remained his usual funny, quirky self and as a family, we had to be sure he was comfortable and happy.

The time came when the treatment wasn’t working anymore and he realised that his time had come. Reluctantly, after a four year battle, he went into Halton Haven Hospice for palliative care on April 7th - losing his battle with the cancer that had comsumed him (and all of us as a family) on April 14th.

The reason I want to help this hospice so much is that because all the time that my granddad was in there, the Doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants became like our second family - even the auxilliary staff did a fantastic job and the care he received was like no other care I’ve experienced. The compassion and empathy these people show is something I can’t really explain and they certainly don’t get the praise they deserve.

We‘re not aiming to raise hundreds of thousands (although that would be amazing) just a healthy amount to contribute to help them build and maintain their care/respite facilities. I’ve also decided that if I reach my goal, to donate my hair to Cancer Research UK. This has been a massive but easy decision for me to make.

Even if you don‘t donate to our cause, please share my page...

Thank you for reading xx
