Story
A boy and girl, can't have been more then 17 stood in front of me. He has no shoes on and soaked through, she is in pj's and a pair of slippers. They were brought to us by our regular guests at More Than A Meal, a breakfast service for the homeless and those in food poverty. I've helped lead the service for 5 or so years now and these young ones stayed with me more than anyone else. Cold, soaking wet, no idea where to go and taken in by our guys who had nothing to give but protection. Living in Edinburgh, we have a large transient homeless population and hostels can easily become full and shelters close in the evenings. Many new comers arrive at night and have no idea what to do. I want to help change that in a small way by providing a weekend overnight van in the center of Edinburgh to hand out warm clothes, sleeping bags, roll mats, toiletries, snacks and information to anyone homeless who needs them overnight. In this day and age, no-one should be cold, soaked on the streets. No-one should be sleeping on a pavement shivering. I can't fix the world, but I can try to be a friendly face and a light over night.
