Story
Hi, my name is Steve, and I work for a small charity called Three Roses Homes which supports 14 incredible adults with learning disabilities. It's a special place full of care, love, and laughter – but as a self-funded charity, every need, every trip, and every improvement must be covered through fundraising.
This year, I’ve decided to take on a huge personal challenge:
🏍️ Riding my 125cc Yamaha from John O'Groats to Land's End – around 1,850 miles – over 5 days, staying off the motorways, just A & B roads.
But this isn’t just about the ride. There’s a deeper reason behind it.
💬 My Story
Back in 2018, I discovered a lump in my groin. After a CT scan and follow-ups with the haematology team, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma – a type of blood cancer.
I went through 6 rounds of R-CHOP chemotherapy over 18 weeks. When treatment finished, I got to ring the bell – an emotional and unforgettable moment. To mark the occasion, I did a charity skydive for Lymphoma Action.
But just 6 weeks later, during a routine PET scan, I was told the chemo hadn’t worked – and that there was nothing more they could do.
In 2019, I was given the devastating news: the cancer was terminal.
For the next six years, I lived with this weight hanging over me, not knowing how much time I had left.
Then, just a few months ago, I had a routine appointment with my consultant. My wife and I went in expecting the usual check-in. But what he told us next floored us both:
My tumour hadn’t grown.
There were no new signs of activity.
And after 6 long years… I was in remission!!
We honestly thought he had made a mistake. But no – thanks to incredible advancements in medical science, if the cancer ever returned, it could now be treated.
It took a few days for it to truly sink in – but I’d been given my life back.
🌹 Why the Ride Matters
To mark my remission, and to give back to the people I support every day, I’m taking on this motorbike challenge. It’s not going to be easy – 9 hours a day on the road, over 5 days – but it’s nothing compared to the battles others face every day.
🙏 How You Can Help
Whether it’s £1 or £10, or a share on social media, every bit helps. I’m incredibly grateful for any support you can offer.
This journey is about hope, gratitude, and giving back – and I’d love for you to be a part of it.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ❤️
