    Story

The Rowland Emett Society are raising funds to hold a Kinetic Art/Automata exhibition at Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum called Mechanical Things from Dec 2016 to March 2017. This will feature the largest of Emett's machines 'A Quiet Afternoon in the Cloud Cuckoo Valley' laid out as he originally intended and an original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Car.

By raising the money we aim in conjunction with MAD Museum in Stratford Upon Avon to bring together more of Emett's work, along with that of other artists and craftsmen who have drawn inspiration from him to create an exhibition that will make you smile.

We have managed to raise £23,000 in total and will start building the exhibition in early November but still require more funds to make this a truly fantastic event.

      Update from the Page owner

Yesterday was the most exciting of days - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang arrived at the exhibition space. It fitted into the goods lift with one inch to spare!! Looking shiny and very beautiful it is sitting beside A Quiet Afternoon in Cloud Cuckoo Valley as we build the exhibition around them. Other works were collected this week and more will arrive next week. We have an abundance of incredible work for this wonderful exhibition. Thank you to all of you for your amazing support.

It has been a busy week - the rest of Cloud Cuckoo Valley arrived at Thinktank and yesterday we raised the train onto the tracks. It looks magnificant! We have been very active painting MDF boards with white paint and Tim Griffiths from the Rowland Emett Society has collected an amazing selection of Automata for the exhibition. The date for the preview is still to be confirmed but most likely the weekend of 3rd December so please pencil this into your diaries. We are looking forward to seeing you all there.

We had an exciting day on Monday when we received part of Cloud Cuckoo Valley at Thinktank. Next Wednesday, we will have a busy day when the rest of this fantastic machine will arrive along. It is very good to see the crates sitting in the exhibition space creating a sense of excitement. Tim Griffiths, Rowland Emett Society has been touring the country far and wide to collect together many pieces of Automata and Kinetic Art and the Chitty Car will arrive later in November.
