Thank you for taking time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hi, My name is Steve. I'm 65 years old and a few years ago, I was preparing for semi-retirement, with plans to sell my consultancy business and take life a little easier. That was, until December 4th 2019, when I received a call that no parent should have to, when I was told that my 34 year old son, Jordan, had taken his own life.
Despite Jordan being diagnosed with clinical anxiety and depression 4+ years earlier, nothing had prepared us to consider that he may also be wanting to end his own life, certainly there were no signs in the WhatsApp exchange I had with him the evening before
The following weeks and months, our family had to deal with the devastating aftermath of Jordan's suicide and within 3 weeks, I published an article on LinkedIn, titled: "The Day My Son Took His Own Life ". It was my way of trying to release the turmoil and anguish I felt inside and share just what an awful experience being bereaved by suicide is.
Symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) visited me frequently during those early months but so too did a desire to understand why Jordan had taken such a drastic step to escape; 'the thoughts that are literally showing me no way out', which he wrote in his final letter to his family, left on the kitchen table next to a glass of water and a half-eaten bowl of porridge - his last ever breakfast.
On the 1st August 2020, I founded The Jordan Legacy , as a Community Interest Company (CIC) and during the past 4 years we have delivered many talks, facilitated online panel discussion events on the topic of suicide, held 2 physical 'Hope for Life UK' conferences in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and launched our own online radio show, Jordan's Space. We've published research and partnered with organisations like North Yorkshire and Northumbria Police forces and many others operating in the suicide prevention space.
Now we are embarking on our biggest challenge yet and we need your support.
Every 90 minutes a friend or loved one is lost through suicide in the UK.
We need your support today, to raise £25,000 to enable The Jordan Legacy CIC to facilitate the creation of a national, collaborative, community network to reduce deaths by suicide in the UK.
Suicide is currently the biggest killer of adults under the age of 35 with more than 6,000 people dying every year in the UK. 75% of these deaths are men, approximately 200 are school children and 100 are university students. The impact on families and loved ones of those left behind is devastating and has a long-lasting impact, with more than 810,000 people impacted by suicide in the UK every year. These are shocking numbers, and we need to do something about it.
Many individuals who die by suicide have felt isolated, alone and have been struggling with mental health challenges. With the right support, every single one of them could have had a very different story.
But there is still no progress. The numbers are increasing at an alarming rate. For the past 16 years there has been no downward movement in the annual death toll. One suicide is one too many.
One Voice, One Hope - a collaborative network for suicide prevention
'One Voice, One Hope: is community network, something new and different, which would enable those who don't always have their voices heard but should absolutely be part of the solution, to come together, as a community, to network and feel supported and be able to work collaboratively on initiatives to significantly reduce the more than 6000 deaths in the UK by preventing all preventable suicides.
Taking the principles outlined in The Jordan Legacy's 'ground-breaking report, 'Moving Towards a Zero Suicide Society', an important aspect of One Voice, One Hope is collaboration to implement the practical actions required to get the suicide numbers moving on downward trend, towards zero. We can only achieve this through collaboration on a scale we have not experienced before.
Only by coming together, sharing skills and resources and applying the guiding principles of respect, humility, trust, compassion can reverse a trend that has no downward trend in suicide numbers for 16 years. Now, numbers have been significantly increasing since 2022!
What will you be funding?
The Jordan Legacy is a small, registered Community Interest Company (CIC). We will take on full responsibility, alongside our other suicide prevention activities, for facilitating the creation and development of this stand alone community network. We might be small but many have said that we often punch above our weight and we are committed to achieving our vision of a Zero Suicide Society, one that is willing and able to do all it can to prevent all preventable suicides.
The Jordan Legacy was formed in August 2020 following the death of the founder’s son, Jordan Phillip. To this day, the family will never fully be able to comprehend why Jordan made the decision to end his life, but ever since it has been our passion to prevent any more deaths from suicide.
Anyone can be impacted by suicide and yet, everyone can help prevent someone from ending their own life.

1 day agoA brief update from us to say thank you again for your support. January is a very busy month for The Jordan Legacy and yesterday, Steve took part in #BrewMonday, a collaboration between Andy's Man Club, Samaritans and Govia Thames Link Rail Enforcement Officers, handing out tea bags, biscuits and wellbeing tips to passengers on the 9:26 train from Peterborough to St. Pancras. Sadly, this rail line experiences too many suicides and attempts. This is just one of several activities we're undertaking in Jan. Thank you for helping us to do this.
