Story

With Telford’s Homes help, Chris, Ed, Joe, Lisa and Rocio are raising money for the expansion of the Westmead community garden.

Westmead community garden is located in the Kingsmead Estate, Hackney. Run by volunteers and with the support of a local charity, ecoACTIVE, the garden acts as a local community hub, giving a chance to meet new people, connect with neighbours, learn new skills and getting all the benefits of being outdoors and in contact with nature.

The existing garden is used to grow vegetables, flowers beds, fruit trees and also includes a small pond. A small plot of land adjacent to the existing garden has recently been cleared to allow expansion of the garden.

Unfortunately, the new plot of land is not currently accessible to everyone. The ground is uneven, and the access is not safe. In order to expand the garden to the north, the ground needs to be levelled and an access path needs to be installed, which will allow everyone to get closer to nature.

Following the installation of the path, the volunteers along with the Telford team are hoping to install raised beds, a native hedgerow, a potting area, a pergola, and a mini-orchard.

We are looking to raise £5,000 in order to fund the items listed above. Your donation will help to create c.170m2 of garden, support an enthusiastic community and increase the wildlife of the local area. Any leftover funds or funds raised in excess of our goal will be donated to the charity ecoACTIVE who help to manage the site.
