Story

Ted Peate was probably the finest spin bowler of the Victorian era. His name is the first on the Lord's honour board, he held the record for most first class wickets in a season and was the last man out in the famous Test match against Australia which gave birth to the Ashes. In seven of his eight years at Yorkshire he was their top wicket taker until Yorkshire made the shock decision to end his county career. The Australians couldn't believe it. Alas, this giant of Yorkshire and England cricket lies in an unmarked grave at the side of the runway to Leeds-Bradford airport. To coincide with the first ever biography of Ted Peate later this year, his supporters are planning to unveil a headstone to mark the last resting place of a man feared and respected throughout the world of cricket. Should there be any surplus funds they will be donated to a cause relevant to the development of grassroots cricket. Here's a picture of the bare patch of grass where Ted is buried in Yeadon cemetery..
