Story

It‘s almost 2 years since AFC Pogmoor player, Owen Jenkinson was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma. He had just helped his football team to promotion when he felt a pain in his leg during the final game of the season. Within days he was given his lifechanging diagnosis.

Incredibly, Owen returned to action with his team before the end of the following season. This followed many months of treatment including chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He once again joined the team on a fulltime basis for the 2023/24 season, scoring a fantastic volley on his first preseason game and then playing his part in several league and cup wins. He also returned to being the great joker that we know him to be, and a brilliant mate.

In February 2024 we learned that Owen’s cancer had returned. His treatment has started again and the football is on hold for now. Several of his Poggy U16 teammates decided that when the time came for Owen to shave his hair again, that they would like to shave theirs too. They asked if they could request sponsorship for this, to raise money for Owen to use for “whatever he wants”.

Local barber (and AFC Pogmoor legend), Karl Smith and his staff have offered to provide haircuts for Owen, his teammates and coaches and this will take place on Tuesday the 12th March instead of the usual team training session. The lads would be extremely grateful for any sponsorship that you can give as they support their mate and his family.

We’re sending our love and support to our number 9 and all of #TeamJenko
