Teach a friend to read website
Half our prisoners can't read, but the other half can teach their fellow inmates with our Teach a friend to read coach-book.Teach a friend to read is a unique, interactive coach-book, which anyone who can read can just pick up and teach anyone of any age to read: their mother, father, brother, sister, child, neighbour, fellow traveller or prison inmate. One coach with one learner is the key!
Illiteracy lies at the heart of poverty, unemployment and crime.
Prisoners who struggle with reading have the time and motivation to want to learn to read from their fellow inmates.
Reading-coach inmates gain great satisfaction, increased confidence, and a sense of self-worth from teaching a fellow inmate.
£5 will pay for a Teach a friend to read coach-book and a certificate for the coach to celebrate that they have given the gift of reading and writing to a fellow inmate.
We need to raise £1000+ to put Teach a friend to read coach-books into the 150 prisons in the UK.
We plan to spread Teach a friend to read to all prisons.

7 years agoWe still getting the message out there to help end illiteracy in UK prisons. We are still fundraising and thank everyone involved in helping us. We got loads of events planned. Please follow all our social media to keep up to date.

7 years agoThank you to everyone who has supported us so far. We still have loads of new plans to help drive the campaign forward and hit our target. We have already started talking to prisons and arranging for our first prison to be given 25 copies of Teach a friend to read. Thanks again for helping us to make this a reality
