    Story

Following the devastating effects on homes and businesses since the recent series of floods in Syston, with some residents still unable to return to their houses and others in fear each time we get a heavy downpour, there is a need for funding. At the moment homeowners can only access a small pot of money from the Government via Charnwood Borough Council but this is nowhere near enough to compensate for the amount of damage caused since October last year.

Whilst working for Syston Town Council and since becoming a Flood Warden, I have attended many meetings with distressed residents and business owners and feel the need to contribute in some small way to alleviate the financial burden people find themselves in through no fault of their own. I have therefore decided to run the York Marathon held on 20th October in aid of the victims of the Syston floods and have started a Syston Flood Fund.
