Story

We have a gorgeous historic ship, Svanskar, in Bristol. Originally called Svealand, she was built and launched at Petters Yard, Halso, Sweden in 1938.

She urgently needs restoration to prevent any further decay. The dream is to get her sailing again and it will take some work to do this. Her decks and rigging need treating and some of her timbers need replacing. We will do the work ourselves and we need volunteers for everything from climbers who can get up to the top mast, to those willing to spend an hour cleaning and painting the woodwork.

Basically sound, she is well worth saving both as a historic ship and as an opportunity for people to learn new skills and experience life aboard!

We want to involve local charities who are looking for projects for young disadvantaged people and homeless people to become involved with. To do this we need to ensure she is a safe environment and that we have the right tools and equipment for everyone.
Please follow Svanskar on facebook for updates!
