Iʼve raised £1,650 to support Aidan Hart taking time away from the studio to study ancient master mosaic techniques as he recovers from much-needed hip surgery.

    Story

Many of us know Aidan Hart as our teacher and mentor in iconography. Many also know him through the commissioned works he has made for us. All of us who have had any contact with him whatsoever will attest that Aidan is a God-gifted artist and radiant soul who has poured his life's work into beautifying the Church, all the while drawing those around him closer to the Kingdom of God through his love, wisdom, joy, encouragement, and inspiration.

As you may know, Aidan is not one to express any discomfort to his neighbors. Most of us who have not been with him recently would not be aware that Aidan had any health issues. But his constant pain in his hip has this year reached the point where it is significantly affecting his mobility and work. Aidan needs to have a hip replacement operation as soon as possible. He is determined to make his recuperation period (when he will be unable to work in the studio) a positive time by undertaking a 10-week study into the methods of Byzantine and Western medieval mosaic masters.

Aidan continues to receive inquiries for future mosaic commissions, and God-willing this time of medical care will not only strengthen his body for that work, but also give him an opportunity to enrich his understanding of the finest aspects of the craft through study, so that his best work is yet to come.

Those of us who know him as our teacher or mentor can speak of his tireless outpouring of time, thought, and coaching invested in us – above and beyond the confines of the classroom.

Together we hope to support Aidan and his family during this time in which he will not be able to work, thereby also funding valuable research that Aidan will doubtless not only bring to bear on his own mosaic works, but also eagerly pass down to those whom he continues to train.

This fundraiser has been organized by Aidan’s current Iconography students. All donations will be wired directly to Aidan Hart at the conclusion of the campaign. Thank you all very much for your support and generosity. Peace and Blessings in Christ. X

With love and thanks for Dear Aidan. Not just for his generous sharing of all his years of study but for the beautiful way his Spirit has influenced us all during our time as his students.
