Story
I have known Lindy Misomali since she was a toddler. She is the daughter of my good friend, Debra Potani, and the great granddaughter of Homba Mbekeani, my Malawi mother who sadly died in July 2019, aged 92.
Homba would be very proud to see Lindy graduate. She was a champion of girls’ education long before it was mainstream. She was a Xhosa princess and grew up in the Eastern Cape. She went to the same secondary school as Mandela (though a few years after him), but at 90 was still angry that as a girl all she was allowed to consider as a career was teaching or nursing. She wanted to be a lawyer!
Lindy is studying Business Administration at DMI St John the Baptist University in Malawi and has successfully completed her first two years - with many thanks to my friends and family who sponsored her. And I am determined we will see her graduate in the summer of 2023.
Lindy is in her third year, and is about to start the second term. The fees are £660 and I have already raised £400 so just need another £260. If you can help at all, you will be supporting the next generation of young Malawi women to build their country. Thank you, and here's Lindy too.
Thank you. No words can fully express how happy my mother and I are. I am more than grateful and very happy to know that I no longer have to worry about my tuition fee anymore and that my future still has direction.
This has also motivated me to continue working harder than before, so that I graduate my degree with a distinction. Not many people get these opportunity but I am delighted for the plan that you have made for me and I don’t take it for granted am really lucky to be one of the students who no longer worries about tuition fee.
My mother is also happy and grateful, because she was really stressing about how she was going to pay for my tuition fee and that “my daughter will end up like me not finishing school due to lack of tuition fee”.
But now she has all the confidence and strength that with what you have done for her daughter, she will be able to see her daughter graduating and achieving her goals and aims in future. Thank you so much for your support, it really means a lot. Lindy .

3 years agoThanks everyone for their very generous donations. We have exceeded our original target, which means we can put a little by for next term's fees which are due in August. Lindy is sending me a video to say thanks (the wonders of WhatsApp) and I will post it up here when it arrives. Happy New Year when it comes. Susan x
