I've raised £4000 to Support Fiona in getting the disability aids and home improvements needed for her recent diagnosis of FND to improve her quality of life.

Fiona was diagnosed with FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) in December 2020 after a few years of having symptoms of similar conditions. The past four months since her diagnosis, her condition has deteriorated significantly. FND is a neurological condition caused by the functioning of the nervous system and how the brain and body send and receive signals. FND is extremely hard to diagnose however, since Fiona's diagnosis, she has experienced more and more symptoms of FND and is now in and out of hospital. Fiona is now at the stage she is in extreme pain all the time, lost the ability to walk, suffers daily seizures and has also lost her ability to speak. This is having an impact mentally and life at the moment is very difficult for Fiona.
Fiona is now currently in hospital where she is working hard with the occupational therapist, physio's and the SALT team (Speech and Language Therapy). Fiona's husband Steven and two girls Imogen aged 12 and Skye aged 11 have been amazing however, they are having to deal with, coming to terms with the life changing diagnosis. The girls are missing their mum due to COVID restrictions with not being allowed to visit.
Fiona and Steven's family have identified home improvements they will need such as, a walk in shower, downstairs toilet, a mobility bed and chair and an electric wheelchair to go on days out, to maintain some normality with the children. The target of £4000 that we are hoping to achieve will be a massive contribution towards the £10,000 of the total estimated cost for the home improvement and aids. Those aids will all help to prepare for Fiona's return home, giving her some independence and comfort.
Fiona and Steven are very caring people and both have been very much involved themselves in all their adult lives in fundraising for various different types of charities, including local football clubs, gymnastics clubs, independent charities and many others. They both also do a lot of volunteering work, serve on various committees and help many others when needed. They now need the help!
We as a family have started this fund up to support Fiona, Steven and the girls to accommodate their needs, with the work they will require in and around the home, which will allow Fiona to have a better quality of life, without impacting too much on their immediate family. We have done this as a family as we think they are both deserving of help and support to get what they desperately need.
We would appreciate you sharing this with people you know. We thank you for any donations to support Fiona and her family. It would go to a much needed cause.
