Story

Bath Cougars Netball club are raising money to help support Nancy and her family through Nancy’s recovery and to help with the costs involved with home adaption and Nancy’s future needs. We’ll be running multiple different types of fundraisers with a campaign within the Avon netball community and one large club organised fundraiser in conjunction with Hayesfield School on Saturday 9th April 2022.

The story -

At Bath Cougars we were both horrified and devastated to learn that one of our junior U14 netball players, Nancy Jubb, was in hospital having lost the use of her lower body. Whilst initially Doctors thought Nancy’s paralysis may have been caused by a condition called Transversal Mylelitus they now believe Nancy actually suffered a spinal stroke. Whilst not 100% confirmed yet, this is likely to mean Nancy’s paralysis is permanent and she may not walk again.

Since joining us Nancy has been nothing short of delightful to be around at all times. She’s a polite, kind and intelligent player and showed such great potential. She made a great deal of progress over the course of the season so far. She’s an excellent team mate and treats everyone around her with respect. She’s always had an exceptional attitude towards training. At virtually all times Nancy has a smile on her face - even when coaches are telling her to keep her arms and hands high whilst shooting (I know this would make her smile, she’d probably say I nag her), she has an awesome sense of humour. We’re so deeply upset that Nancy has had her playing journey cut so cruelly short.

Some words from Nancy’s mum -

The doctors can never be certain but the current prognosis is that she has had a freak accident (not sure what caused it as there wasn't a sudden pain or any particular movement) and she has had a spinal stroke which has cut off the blood supply to her spine. This means that she is paralysed from the waist down. She is very unlikely to ever regain feeling. She is being treated by specialist doctors who have been amazing. I feel like my world has ended and have found it hard to stop crying but Nancy is so strong and still smiling despite having to have constant medicine and nurses helping her. Nancy is incredible and forward thinking. She is already googling cool looking wheelchairs and wanting to start a campaign to make schools wheelchair accessible. We are likely to be in hospital for many months.

Please please please support this if you can, it really would make such a difference to this wonderful young ladies immediate future.
