Story
Since the start of the pandemic we, like so many others in our industry, have not been able to host any students. With travel restrictions and quarantine in place, there are just too many obstacles for young people and their parents to overcome in order for students to enjoy our courses.
So, in the midst of such a difficult moment for our sector, we wanted to do something positive to highlight the situation and raise some money for a great cause.
From Thursday 8th to Monday 19th of July (the newly announced "Freedom Day") we will undertake a 500 mile/800km expedition to visit all UKLC’s 10 summer schools that would normally be operational during this period.
We will be using sustainable travel, which means our legs! We will walk, cycle (or even paddle board!) between the various cities that span from York to London (Downing Street to be exact) via Manchester Chester, Nantwich, Bristol, Reading and Chichester on the south coast. A full plan of our journey is available on our website here.
We are aiming to raise awareness of the plight of the industry as a whole, the huge gap left by not welcoming foreign visitors to the UK and to raise some money for the English UK Eddie Byers Fund. For more information about the Eddie Byers Fund, click here.
The Eddie Byers Fund was created to transform lives through learning. It was created in memory the late chief executive of English UK, who was passionate about the transformative power of education, to help aspiring students study English for better employment, education and community life. It funds projects in the UK and abroad, including teacher training in Tanzania to help young pupils access high school where lessons are taught in English, and English teaching in Palestine.
We would very much like your support and so we are asking you for a sponsorship donation.
We will keep you updated on our progress via our Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn pages.
“At UKLC we want to do something positive at a challenging time for our students, friends, partners and suppliers. It is a long way to go, there are not that many of us and we are carrying our lockdown pounds with us! So wish us luck! We are asking everyone impacted by this to support us by making a donation. We hope we can count on you!“ “
