Story

In 2016 I lost my Dad to cancer and whilst this was completely heart breaking, I appreciate how lucky I was to have had the most amazing, kind, caring, supportive and selfless father I could have wished for. He supported every decision I ever made whether it was driving me to my first Saturday job or flying halfway round the world to walk me down the aisle to marry a man he'd only met a handful of times. He was always there when I needed him - from all those nightmare DIY jobs to dropping everything in order to pick up his doting granddaughter from school - and it was always done with a huge smile on his face.

I feel incredibly lucky that myself and my sisters had a father who empowered us to believe that we could achieve anything we set our mind to. But I also know that there are many other young girls and women who are not so fortunate, which is why my myself and my daughter Maui have decided to take part in the Great Wall of China Charity Trek in September in order to raise funds for the One Woman at a Time charity, in his memory.

We will be walking for 6 days along the Great Wall of China along with other friends and supporters of One Woman at a Time.

One Woman At A Time is dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls who are severely disadvantaged by social or economic circumstances. The charity does this through funding education and vocational training that give women the skills and knowledge to create sustainable change for herself, her family and thereby transforming her community.

Their priority is women and girls in Kenya, India and the UK who are at risk of forced marriage, Female Genital Mutilation and gender-based violence. Their aim is to listen to women, hear what they need in terms of educational, emotional and financial support and offer opportunities to create choices.

Anything you can spare would be hugely appreciated. Just to give it some context: £5 a week pays for a young girl to go to refuge from fleeing FGM and then into full-time primary school, which is less than 2 trips to Starbucks.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, Maui and I will be thrilled with any donations to help this wonderful cause.
