Story

Hello, my name is Tracey Haskins. On November 3rd 2021 my husband Stuart and I both fully vaccinated went on holiday for 10 days to Cyprus thinking we had good protection. We were due boosters that were cancelled before we left due to a shortage on the NHS.

On Friday, November 12th, my husband was admitted to hospital with chest pains and high fever. He tested positive for Covid and by Sunday was told he had double pneumonia. Early hours of Tuesday his oxygen levels dropped despite being on oxygen and was admitted to the ICU. I am currently in a Covid hostel in isolation as I’m asymptomatic. The hospital hasn’t got the medicine and equipment that he needs and Stuart has gone down hill in the 9 days he’s been in. His drip valve was broke and wasn’t giving him the fluids straight away, his oxygen mask was producing water to go up his nose every couple of hours, his catheter was inserted incorrectly, his iv wasn’t inserted correctly in his hand and he now has signs of an infection. He has also been left with wet bed sheets that they didn’t change. Last night the oxygen equipment kept malfunctioning. The hospital is known to be unsanitary and they are rude.

If Stuart was in hospital in the U.K he’d receive so much better care and my fear is if he’s left there he may not come out as they are making basic mistakes. His mental state is also a concern as Stuart has a history of depression. I am all alone in isolation and not allowed to visit him.

We’ve spoken to the British Embassy who agree Stuart needs to be flown back to the UK for medical treatment as the hospital he’s in his failing him. Please help us fly Stuart home by medical plane, this is our only hope. Stuart is very frightened, having Covid in hospital is a frightening experience let alone in a foreign country where the care is poor and there’s a language barrier which makes it difficult.

Despite taking out medical insurance we still need to find a way to fly Stuart home as soon as possible.

I am due to be released from Covid isolation on Monday and don’t want to leave my husband in the ICU. Stuart is a wonderful husband, father, son and brother and we are desperate to raise money to fly him home where he belongs. Thank you all, love Tracey and family
