Story

St. Saviour’s Dottery, is the only ‘Tin Tabernacle’ in Dorset in which regular services are still held. The church was built between November 1881 and January 1882. The formal dedication ceremony for the church was held on 4th February 1882. As well as bi-weekly services, the church is used for a number of community events such as Dottery Ladies Stitch & Slurp knitting club.

Maintenance of the church is undertaken by dedicated members of the community to reduce running costs, however at the grand old age of 136, the church is now really beginning to show its age. This year’s harsh winter has taken its toll and substantial repairs are now required.

The community have come together to raise funds over the past few years.  We hold an annual harvest festival meal and have stalls at local fetes, with other ideas currently being developed.

In this country, numbers of corrugated iron churches have dwindled rapidly, and few remain in their original use. We need your help to make this church ready for its next 100 years!
