The Coffey family, plus some dedicated friends, are going to hike, run, swim and cycle a 450 mile relay across Scotland from Gretna Green to John o’ Groats to raise money for premature or sick babies born in Scotland.

The family came up with the idea for the challenge following the premature births of Cambell and Hamish Coffey at Edinburgh Royal Informary on the 27th of June 2021 at only 28 weeks old. Immediately, they were transferred to the Simpsons Neonatal Unit where they were looked after by the amazing staff for the next 80 days. Whilst in hospital they received incredible care and their parents, Jamie and Emma, were involved every step of the way.

To say thank you, the whole family are doing the challenge to raise funds for Simpsons Special Care Babies (SSCB), which is a charity whose primary objective is to support the specialist care that the staff of the Simpson Neonatal Unit provide to babies born prematurely or sick, both within Edinburgh and throughout the country.​

They do this by raising funds for state of the art equipment, the most advanced staff training, groundbreaking research in the field of neonatology, and support and advice to the staff and families in the Neonatal Unit, complementing and enhancing that already provided by the NHS.

The family will start the 450 mile Stride for Simpsons challenge on the 16th of July 2022 in Gretna Green where various members and friends will cycle to Glasgow, hike the West Highland Way and Ben Nevis, swim Loch Lochy, run alongside Loch Ness before cycling up to John O'Groats and the finish line.
