St Mary the Virgin in Hurst Hill near Sedgley has been a focal point for family life since it first opened its doors in May 1872.

For many in our area it is where they were baptised, where they were married, and where they in turn had their own children christened.

In the 1970’s, with support from the local community, an activity centre was built adjacent to the church to provide additional facilities for both the church and a wide variety of groups from the community.

Rising maintenance costs and changing lifestyles has meant that the activity centre itself is now no longer safe or usable.

St Mary’s is therefore embarking on a major new programme to create meeting rooms, toilets and refreshment facilities within the church building itself which will make it viable for a wide range of community needs both today and in the future.

Groups that will immediately benefit from the alterations include our local mother and toddler group which has operated at the church for over 20 years, a local youth study group, as well as a bereavement support group which was just about to be established when the activity centre had to close.

Over £13,000 has already been raised and we expect that if we can raise £2500 from Crowd Funding that we will be able to commence the first phase of the building works.
