We at St John Bosco believe that reading is a key tool for life and the importance of enjoying reading underpins this. Teaching children to become excellent readers is a large and exciting part of what we do in our school. We have lots of opportunities for reading exciting books and materials and our school values and promotes the importance of reading for pleasure. All classes across the school have the opportunity to read on a daily basis and reading at home with parents is something we encourage and celebrate.

To further develop our school's reading provision and most importantly enhance our children's love of reading, we have decided to convert our outside classroom into a bespoke school library. We hope that this will provide our children with a greater range of fictional reading materials which they can enjoy in a calm and stimulating environment where the only thing that matters is enjoying the magic and escapism a quality book provides.

Not only would we like to improve the quality and range of books for our children, we would also like to develop the furnishings of the library area. Being able to immerse yourself into a fantastic book, comfortably lay on a bed of cushions or beanbag chairs is something our children have told us they would relish the opportunity to do and it is our hope that by reaching our target, we can make this wish come true for our children.

It is our intention to use the new library as an opportunity to strengthen our links with our parents and the wider community. We also intend to provide books for our parents and family members so that the library is not just for the children but our whole school family. We feel that developing this reading space would be a perfect location for any of our parent volunteers to read with our children, so that as many children as possible are reading on a more frequent basis.
