Iʼve raised £1,235 to Send Myanmar students to university

    Story

Though Myanmar (Burma) now has a democratic government, a civil war has been fought for over 60 years. The education system is dire, and so many young individuals leave their homes and families and travel to Thailand where they can get education.

This group of students have overcome many problems, and have finally completed their American high school diploma. Their dream is to attend university, so that they can become more educated and then return to develop their communities.

We're trying to raise enough to send 6 of these students to university. So far one person has pledged $5,000. Ideally, we'd like to raise a further $5,000 online or through monthly giving. 100 people giving just £2 per month would be enough to send one student to university. Others might want to give a one time donation, and so we've set this up.

Some of these students come from families where they make less than £100 per YEAR, yet their parents will give whatever they can.

Please help us to make these students' dreams come true. Please help them to become empowered to make changes in their homeland.

    Update - San Mya's story

My name's San Mya. I have five members in my family. I have three younger sisters, me, and mother. Unfortunately, my father passed away when I was 12 years old. I come from a poor family and we can not afford to live like other people. We only live in a bamboo house. After my father passed away, instead of me leaving school, one of my younger sisters scarified her education and helped my mother on the farm. After things were a little better. However, as I got higher class, my education fees cost more. When my mother had no way to do things, she asked another of my younger sisters to left school again. This sister has to left school after she finished Grade 6. In the future I do not want to see discrimination between men and women, and I will try to get opportunity for women to have equal rights so that other girls do not need to sacrifice their education

Thanks everyone! San Mya, Sa Ka Pyu and Tun Oo were all accepted into Chiang Mai International Uni. Shel Shel has already started at UoPeople. Angelo will start at APIU in August and Aye Aye Maw will start at the Asian University for Women too. That just leaves Kyaw Ah who has his entrance exam on Saturday. We are still a little short, but pray we can find the rest of the money soon.

There's 9 days left, so wanted to give an update. So far, 2 studnets have got full scholarships from an NGO, two have full scholarships from university and two have partial (15%) scholarships. So we're aiming at 120,000 Baht for Sar Mya and Tun Oo and 70,000 Baht for Saw Ah. Saw Ah's father died when he was very young, and he went around many schools. Probably because he changed schools so many times, he had large gaps in his knowledge. His sheer determination to succeed persuaded me to give him a place in GED, and now he aims to go to uni.
